Can water help with weight loss?

When it comes to weight loss and making healthier lifestyle choices, water is probably one of the most underrated nutrients out there. Most of us know that we should aim to drink at least two litres of water a day, but have you ever wondered why? Let’s have a look at how staying hydrated and drinking water can help you on your weight loss journey…

💧It fuels your workouts

If you’re dehydrated, then your workouts and general fat loss are likely to take a hit. Drinking before you head to the gym or your training session, and then staying hydrated every 30 minutes while working out is key.

If you want to make sure that you’re totally fuelled up on water, you could weigh yourself pre and post workout, and if your post-workout weight is two or more per cent less than your pre-workout weight, then you’re not drinking enough – kick your hydration up a notch and get guzzling the water!

💧It can boost your metabolism

Aside from sweating it out at the gym, water can boost your calorific burn – this is due to your body working to process whatever’s coming in. It’s known as ‘diet-induced thermogenesis’ and works for water in the same way that it works for anything containing calories.

💧It helps keep hunger at bay

You’ve probably heard that ‘water makes you feel full’ – but actually, staying hydrated can help to heed hunger cues. Often when you think you’re hungry, you’re actually just thirsty.

The feelings linked with hunger such as a gurgling stomach, low energy levels and light-headedness can also be a result of dehydration. So when you feel hunger kicking in, try getting some water down you, and then you’ll know how hungry you really are!

💧Your energy levels will be boosted

Energy and weight loss go hand in hand – when your energy levels are up, you’ll smash your workouts, dodge your cravings and are generally just more likely to get up and going. Water keeps your cells firing, your muscles fed with oxygen and nutrients, and can keep your brain focused on your fitness and weight loss goals!

💧It stops you drinking other things

Even on its own, water is great – but if it stops you from drinking coffee, fizzy drinks or energy drinks then it’s even better! This will help to keep your calorie intake lower, and help you to start seeing results sooner rather than later.
