Is HIIT good for weight loss?

If you’ve ever tried to lose weight fast, you’ll already know that there’s no real ‘quick fix’. Fad diets, diet pills, weight loss cleanses – they’re never really going to get you the long-term results that you want.

We’ve already talked about how the best way to burn fat and lose weight is to follow a healthy diet, where you’re burning more calories each day than you’re eating, and to exercise.

But here’s the catch; not all exercises are created equal! If you’re looking to improve your overall fitness and work your heart, then aerobic exercise like jogging should do the trick. If you’re looking to increase strength and build up muscle, then lifting weights is your best bet. BUT if you’re looking to burn fat, build up muscle and see your fitness levels increase, then High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is the way to go.

💪🏼What is HIIT?

It’s a fairly simple concept; you work harder, not longer. You’ll put in maximum effort through quick, intense bursts of exercise followed by short recovery periods. This will get your heart rate up, and burn more calories and fat in less time.

💪🏼Why will I burn more calories?

The main reason that you’ll burn more fat and calories from a HIIT workout is because putting in maximum effort and all-out sprinting boosts your resting metabolism after a workout, meaning that you’ll keep burning calories even after you’ve finished exercising.

💪🏼What are some good HIIT exercises?

Jumping jacks or other fast bodyweight moves

Jumping squats

Kettlebell swings

Jumping lunges

Push-ups

Burpees

Squats with a light weight

Plank

There are many more exercises that can be incorporated into a HIIT workout – if you’ve got any questions or would like to know about HIIT groups in the area, drop me a message and let me know!
